Sports Coach POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Tanzania Education Corporation and Tumaini Schools are currently seeking sports coaches, including for football, netball, volleyball, basketball, and athletics. Positions are open at the primary and secondary levels. Please note, this is an unpaid, temporary volunteer position.
Tumaini Junior and Senior Secondary Schools are top performing private schools in the Arusha region of Tanzania. Though private, tuition is reasonable and a student is never sent home if they become unable to pay fees. About 40% of students receive some form of financial aid. This system has resulted in schools with almost 900 students receiving quality education from dedicated, well-paid teachers, four meals a day, clean water, invested parents, and a happy environment.
Tumaini Schools are confident academically but are now looking to expand the extracurricular opportunities offered to students. We believe that physical education, music, art, and vocational skills are key to students' success! However, there are a limited number of experts in the area able to offer these skills.
We are looking for volunteers to come to Tumaini for at least 2 months beginning in July or after. Dates are flexible. Volunteers will be responsible for teaching one or two sports to teams at Tumaini after school and on Saturdays. Schedules can be arranged so that volunteers have enough time to travel, go on safari etc.
Prospective volunteers must have experience working with children or teenagers as well as significant athletic experience. Travel experience, especially in developing areas, is an asset. Volunteers will be expected to work closely with East African teachers, to follow school rules that may be unfamiliar, and to defer to school administration. This position also allows for a lot of flexibility and initiative on the part of the volunteer- you will be expected to develop your own coaching program with noticeable end results. TEC volunteers are also expected to follow a code of conduct in order to represent the organization, school, and their own country well.
